Here's When You Can Expect The Government To Abolish GST

There's only one question on every Malaysian's mind post-GE14, and here's the answer.

One of the key components in Pakatan Harapan's manifesto is the abolishment of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), and now that the party has won the elections, many of you must be anxious to know if the party will keep their promise or not.

Well, good news, fellow Malaysians; the brand new government will keep to its word.

Our new Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng told The New Straits Times in a report on Monday that Pakatan Harapan is committed to abolishing the GST.

But here's the caveat: don't expect the decision to come any time soon.

(Which means that the viral post about GST being abolished on 1 June is fake news, guys!)

Guan Eng told the NST that Malaysians can expect the government to abolish GST "within 100 days of coming into power as promised".

But why can't the government do it now though?

According to Guan Eng, he had yet to be officially sworn in as the Finance Minister, so he does not have the power to make any decision.

“It is just that I have not taken my oath of office for now and cannot be issuing any statements to the effect,” he was quoted by the daily as saying.

So guys, just keep calm and wait for the official announcement, okay?
