As if the COVID-19 situation is not worrying enough, now IDCC Shah Alam vaccination centre has been closed for a day (13 July) as staff at the centre have tested positive.

According to a press release by Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), the centre is closed on the day to allow for sanitisation process.

The vaccination centre will be re-opened on 14 July. CITF urge those with appointments from the date on to turn up for it and get vaccinated.

Get tested if you are sympthomatic

Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin, in a press conference, said that 204 staff at IDCC Shah Alam tested positive after a mass test was done on 10 July.

The result was received on 12 July, prompting the closure of the centre for a day.

" RT-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests shows that all tested have Ct more than 35 where they have low virus load. Based on WHO guideline, the chances of them infecting others is low," he assured the public.

He added that 88% of those working at the vaccination centre have been vaccinated.

The mass testing was ordered after two volunteers at the centre tested positive on 10 July. As the number of cases in Klang Valley is very high, it is hard to detect where the infection started.

As a precautionary measure, CITF asks those who were at IDCC Shah Alam on 9 July after 4 p.m. to watch for any signs of COVID-19 for 10 days.

"If you start developing symptoms, you are advised to go for Covid-19 screening.

"The Covid-19 symptoms are not the same as the side effects you get from vaccinations. The symptoms are like coughing or loss of smell and taste," Khairy said.

According to the press release by CITF, those who were in IDCC between 29 June and 12 July should also be careful and watch for any signs of COVID-19.

The outside world is a scary place right now. As tired as we are of the constant lockdowns, it seems like we have no choice but to stay home as much as possible, and make sure we are masked properly, maintain social distancing and sanitise our hands often when we do leave home.
