If Your Ex-Husband Refuses To Pay ‘Nafkah’, The Government May Freeze His Bank Account
Getting a divorce may be the most uneventful ‘milestone’ in someone’s life, especially when children gets involved. Some may maintain a healthy relationship after separating with each other while others feel like they’d rather disappear from the face of the Earth than hearing from or seeing their ex-spouse.
Well, for Muslims, even if you’re separated, ex-husbands still bear the responsibility to pay nafkah (alimony) to their ex-wife and children.
In Malaysia, we hear a lot of stories where ex-wives and their children are not getting the financial support they should be receiving from their former spouse. Most ex-husbands usually carry on with their lives as if nothing had happened in the past and walk away scot-free.

According to Sinar Harian, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa is currently in talks with the State Syariah Judiciary Department (JKSN) to discuss the possibility of freezing Muslim men’s bank accounts in the event that they evade paying their alimonies.
The government are considering the move in a bid to empower enforcement against Muslim individuals who disobey court orders.

“Many divorced women do not get what they are rightfully entitled to when ex-husbands feel they are not obliged to fulfil their responsibility to pay alimony,” he added.
