When we're thirsty, most of us will do anything for a sip of water.

That was exactly what an elephant in India did recently.

The thirsty elephant became an internet sensation after it stopped a water tanker in its tracks before helping itself to some water.

According to a report by India Times, a video of the astonishing incident went viral on social media.

The report said that the elephant stopped the tanker and signalled to the driver to open the tank.

The incident happened in Karnataka during the Hampi Utsav festival to pay homage to the culture and traditions of the ancient Vijayanagar empire.

The elephant was there as part of the festival.

In the video, the elephant is seen drinking water from the tanker and once it was done, it promptly joined the procession for the festival.
