Her plight got the attention of the authorities, who later promised to improve the internet connection in her vicinity.

Just when we thought things have settled down for her, a minister has created some drama that thrusted the poor student back into the limelight again.

Baseless claims

On Thursday (3 September), for some strange reason, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin told the Dewan Negara that Veveonah Mosibin did not sit for any exam at the prescribed time.

To support his claims, Zahidi even revealed that his department had conducted checks, Malay Mail reported.

Zahidi went on to claim that Veveonah faked sitting for an exam on a treetop, and she did it just to gain popularity and views on YouTube.

However, after receiving major backlash from netizens, politicians as well as friends of Veveonah who came out to defend her, Zahidi made a U-turn, saying that it was all just a misunderstanding.

He further claimed that he had received “inaccurate information” on the matter.

“I want to correct what I said about Veveonah, that she had not actually sat for the exams and that she had shared a video showing her on the tree just to garner views for her YouTube channel.

“I would like to apologise to Veveonah Mosibin because I had received inaccurate information,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

We are pretty sure you can see how ironic the whole thing is; the MCMC themselves are spreading fake news.

Sad and disappointed

After the allegations became a big issue, the 18-year-old took to her Facebook page to give her side of the story.

Veveonah said that she had "become viral" again after the deputy minister's statement, but this time, she's been put under a bad light.

She said that she's hurt and sad over the claims as she's worked very hard for her examinations, and she does not know how to process the negativity directed at her.

“I don’t know how to deal with (these) negative and bad comments on social media. It hurts,” she wrote in a post on her Facebook page.

However, Veveonah said she will forgive "all the mistakes people did to me", and she thanked her friends, family and Malaysians for their support.

To be honest, we don't see the purpose of singling out Veveonah's issue in parliament in the first place.
