A Johor-based cookie supplier was left in the dark after a Singaporean customer allegedly placed a hefty order worth thousands of Ringgit and then disappeared after making only a partial payment.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the supplier, Zheng, shared that the customer, Chen, ordered a variety of items including fried arrowhead chips, cashew cookies, and pineapple tarts on December 26, 2024. The total order amounted to S$1,823.10 (approximately RM6,118).

The cookies were delivered to an industrial area in Mandai Gardens, and three days later, Chen placed another order worth S$104.60 (approximately RM351). However, she only paid around S$1,000 (approximately RM3,355) for both orders, leaving an unpaid balance of S$927.70 (approximately RM3,112).

After Zheng requested for her to settle the remaining balance, Chen messaged on January 15, 2025, promising to visit Kulai personally to make the payment and bring some food along. Trusting her promise, Zheng waited, but Chen never showed up.

Unable to reach Chen via her usual number, Zheng tried contacting her using another number, but Chen did not respond. By February 7, Zheng realised Chen had blocked her number and despite multiple attempts to call and text, and even warning Chen about involving the police, Zheng couldn't recover the money.

Consequently, Zheng filed a police report in Singapore on April as she is facing RM3,000 in unpaid debt.

Meanwhile, she also discovered that the delivery addresses provided by Chen were for third parties. Chen had claimed she was selling the cookies to friends, but Zheng later found out she was actually selling them to other shops.

Zheng added that she allowed her to defer payment on the cookies as she was a regular customer and had previously made payments on time.

“I’m not the business owner, I’m just the person in charge (of supplying the cookies). Now I have to bear RM3,000 in unpaid debt. I just want to get in touch with her and ask her to pay,” she said.
