Kajang Factory Owners Offer RM1K Reward for Information on Culprit Behind Poisoning of 50 Dogs

At least 50 dogs were found dead after allegedly consuming food laced with poison.

According to a report, the incident, which involved both stray dogs and dogs owned by factory operators in the Sungai Chua Industrial Area, first came to light in early July. A woman lodged a police report after five dogs under her care were found dead, showing signs of poisoning such as foaming at the mouth and severe trembling.

Food suspected of being mixed with poison was found scattered around the area, along with numerous dead flies.

The woman added that the incident was not an isolated case, as dogs belonging to other businesses in the same area had also died. Another witness claimed that the poisoned food had been strategically placed in areas where the dogs frequently gathered.

It is believed that the perpetrator may have taken advantage of the area's poor lighting to carry out the act.

RM1,000 offered as reward

Meanwhile, Kajang Municipal Council member Kwan Say Hong said that factory owners in the area have come together to offer a RM1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the culprit.

“I am angry and saddened by this issue, which I was informed has been occurring since early July. At least 50 dogs, both strays and those owned by factory operators, have fallen victim to poisoning,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Kwan acknowledged that issues involving stray dogs are among the most common complaints received by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and many other local authorities. However, he condemned the alleged poisoning and said that no reason can justify any form of animal cruelty.

According to Kwan, a meeting was held with several business owners, workers, representatives from animal welfare NGOs, and the management of the security company responsible for the industrial area.

In addition to discussing the poisoning incident, the group also discussed measures that could be taken to manage the stray dog population, promote responsible pet ownership, and raise awareness.

Reports have been lodged with both the police and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS). Kwan is also urging members of the public who may have information or evidence, such as CCTV or dashcam footage related to the incident, to come forward.
