A local restaurant has come forward to offer a RM30,000 reward to anyone who can assist in the investigation into the tragic death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir at a religious secondary school in Sabah last month.

Sobri Zakaria who is a business advisor of Restoran Tok Keramat, said the restaurant felt compelled to help out of a sense of moral responsibility for what happened to the young girl.

According to Sobri, the reward is intended to facilitate the authorities’ investigation so that those responsible can be brought to justice.

“I felt compelled to help because I love and care for children. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, ‘Whoever does not show love to children and the elderly is not one of us.’"

What happened to Zara moved me to speak out. The Prophet also cared for single mothers, like Zara’s mother who is now struggling. Zara was an only child. If we lack compassion, where is our Islam?" he shared.

“My heart ached and tears fell when I saw what happened to Zara. If this happened to my own children or grandchildren, how would I feel?” he said when met at his restaurant in Jitra on Monday.

Earlier, a video produced by Restoran Tok Keramat went viral after being uploaded on Sunday, expressing solidarity with Zara Qairina and announcing the RM30,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator.

Sobri expressed hope that his efforts would help the authorities resolve the case, which has raised many questions.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has confirmed that several suspects will be charged in connection with the case and that the investigation uncovered elements of bullying, neglect and sexual harassment.
