Following a special meeting held on Wednesday, the Malay Rulers have agreed that there is no need to continue placing the country under Emergency after August 1.

Additionally, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has also called for Parliament to reconvene as soon as possible, a calling which which was also mirrored by the rest of the Malay Rulers.

According to The Star, His Majesty said that this was to allow for the Emergency and the recently announced COVID-19 National Recovery Plan to be debated and for members of the Dewan Rakyat to discuss measures to assist the people affected by the pandemic.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King also called for the government to reduce bureaucracy and focus on advancing the vaccination process to achieve herd immunity.

“His Majesty hopes COVID-19 infection figures will be flattened quickly and views vaccination as the only exit strategy to control the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

“The King also expressed the opinion that there should be a stable and strong government administration that is able to function effectively in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and reviving the economy,” said Ahmad Fadil in a statement following the special meeting.
