If you're not living somewhere in the big cities, waiting for your COVID-19 vaccination appointment can be quite a bane.

Thankfully, your wait is about to be over.

Expediting the process

National Immunisation Plan (NIP) coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin told New Straits Times that the government will be allowing senior citizens to walk in to receive their COVID-19 vaccination beginning next week.

Unlike the previous round of walk-ins, this will be applicable to other states around the country.

Good news for the eldery.
Khairy said that the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) made the decision to enable Malaysians who've yet to receive their first dose to be vaccinated.

"Some states have actually started with the drive while others will start next week. Details on the dates and PPVs (vaccination centres) which are participating (in the exercise) will be announced by the respective states' CITF," he was quoted as saying.

More senior citizens being vaccinated

This came as the government has ramped up efforts to inoculate as many Malaysians as possible.

As of 1 August, Khairy said approximately 20.9 million Malaysians have registered to be vaccinated. Out of that number, 6.2 million of them registered for Phase 2 while 14.7 million under Phase 3.

A total of 3.16 million senior citizens in the country have registered.

In total, more than 7.86 million people have been vaccinated under Phase 2, with 3.07 million of them being senior citizens who've received their first dose. A total of 2.25 million, or 71 per cent of the elderly people in Malaysia, have received full doses.

If you know of any senior citizens living in other states and yet to receive their vaccination, make sure to alert them of this.
