KL Is The Cheapest Asean City To Live In, While Singapore Becomes The Most Expensive City In The World

Did you know that if it’s possible to travel from the cheapest Asean city to the most expensive city in the world in just a few minutes? Well, you totally can!
The Economist Intelligence Unit recently revealed their findings for the 2017 Worldwide Cost of Living survey - a survey that ranks 133 cities around the world in terms of their cost of living - and surprisingly, Kuala Lumpur tied with Bogotá at the 96th spot.
Despite making the list at the 96th spot, that still makes us the cheapestcity in the Asean region!
Meanwhile, our neighbour Singapore topped the list, which means that they are the most expensive city in the world!
Sounds crazy, right?
Singapore managed to beat other great contenders – Hong Kong (2), Tokyo (4), Seoul (6), Paris (7) and New York (9).
However, this isn’t their first ‘win’, though; they have been holding the title of the world's most expensive city for the past four consecutive years!
It’s no wonder that you can see a lot of Malaysians commuting there for work every morning over the decades. Not only is their currency getting stronger against our currency (which is sad for us), but they also have a very stable economy.
As for our other Asean counterparts, Manila was ranked at 92, Jakarta at 82, Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh both at 78, Hanoi at 59, and lastly Bangkok at 51.
So, for those who live around the Klang Valley area, do you think you’re getting your money’s worth after knowing that you’re living in “the cheapest Asean city”?
