Kota Kinabalu City Hall Offers RM2 Bounty for Every Rat Caught, Dead or Alive
Imagine being so fearless that you can catch a rat without hesitation and get paid for it. That’s exactly what Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has just announced.
In an effort to eliminate rat infestations in targeted areas, particularly public markets, DBKK has launched an extermination campaign offering RM2 for each rat caught.
As reported by The Star, Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said the campaign is part of a nationwide initiative involving 10 local authorities, organised by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness about the health risks posed by rats. It will run until July 31.
“This campaign aligns with DBKK’s vision of turning Kota Kinabalu into a liveable, safe, clean, and healthy city for all,” he said.
In addition to the bounty, the campaign includes activities such as communal clean-ups at the Central Market and the implementation of various rat control measures.

According to Sabin, 528 rats have been caught so far this year. In 2023, a total of 1,299 rats were exterminated in the city, while 775 rats were culled between January and June last year.
Those wishing to collect the bounty may bring the rodents dead or alive to DBKK’s office.
