Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge Set To Be Opened To The Public From 2-7 June

Have you seen pictures of the drawbridge in Terengganu that went viral a few months back because it resembled the famous Tower Bridge in London?

The drawbridge looks somewhat almost complete which left many locals and interested Malaysians wondering: when will it be opened to the public?

Well, that may just happen very soon and in fact, just in time for the Hari Raya season.

The Star reported that the Kuala Terengganu City Center Drawbridge will open its, umm, bridges to the public from 2 to 7 June as part of a test run for its operating system.

State secretary Datuk A. Rahman Yahya said the drawbridge – the first of its kind in South-East Asia, in case you didn't know - would then be closed again for some minor last minute touch up. It is expected to be fully open and operating by the end of June.

“We will open the bridge for testing and also for the people to use it during the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations, then we will review every aspect and expect it to be fully open in late June.”

The drawbridge is very close to completion (almost 99 per cent done, according to the authorites), pending some minor finishing work such as the installation of road signages.

Terengganu’s next iconic landmark reportedly costs RM248 million and will connect Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.

No word yet on what the drawbridge will be named.
