The Latest Hari Raya Fashion Trend: 'Songkok' Tun Dr Mahathir
If you are a big fan of our beloved Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, be sure to steal his style this Hari Raya Aidilfitri by getting your hands on his songkok.
Not literally, of course.
You can actually buy one for yourself from the Pekan Rabu Complex, where Sardi Dahar’s stall is located.
His most popular songkok design, the ‘Songkok Style Tun’, is selling like hot cakes because it is lightweight, foldable, does not shrink easily and is made of high quality velvet material.
According to a report by Bernama, the 61-year-old Sardi sells 200 to 250 pieces of songkok ahead of the Hari Raya celebrations, compared to the 150 pieces sold on average during regular days.
Each piece of songkok is priced between RM25 to RM120 but what’s special about the product is the fact that they carry the wordings 'Prime Minister of Malaysia' inscribed on the inner left and right sides of the songkok.
Customers may also choose to have their names sewn on the songkok for an additional fee.
Sardi told the news agency that since Dr Mahathir granted him permission to carry his name in the songkok in 2002, he had taken care to maintain the quality of the product.
Sardi plans to expand his business to other states and neighbouring countries in the future but for now, you can only get the ‘Songkok Style Tun’ at the Pekan Rabu Complex.
