Hear, hear! Batu Gajah could very well soon be upgraded to be a Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran) soon.

Perak executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong told Astro Awani that to date, Batu Gajah’s population is 140,000 and is only a District Council.

He said to become a Municipal Council the population must be above 150,000 people.

However, he is confident that the target is achievable as many new housing projects are being developed, especially in the Tronoh area.

They've come a long way.
Not only that, UCSI University has also reportedly been urged to open a campus in Tronoh, which will bring in many foreign investors to Batu Gajah and increase job opportunities there.

He added that the increase in population could also increase the revenue of the District Council, which had previously earned RM19 million a year.

To be a Municipal Council, the required revenue is RM20 million a year, so Batu Gajah is just RM1 million away from achieving that status.

You can do it, Batu Gajah!
