Penang is well-known all over the world for its delicious food.

Now, the little island has added another feather to its cap.

Great recognition

The Pearl of the Orient has been named as one of the 11 best islands to retire in the world.

The honour was given by popular lifestyle site International Living.

According to Jennifer Stevens, International Living’s executive editor, Penang was chosen because a couple could live there comfortably with just US$2,500 (RM10,175) a month.

On top of that, Penang offers a simple life "and the pleasures of sunshine, sand, and surf are included, free,” Stevens wrote.

"Penang's largest city, George Town, is home to eclectic architecture, a vibrant art scene, and terrific street food."

"As Penang is located in the middle of Southeast Asia, residents can easily reach other destinations in the region as well as Australia and New Zealand,” the caption for Penang read.

Chow Kon Yeow, the Chief Minister of Penang, took to his Facebook page to share the good news:

Other islands that made the list include Koh Samui in Thailand, Mallorca in Spain, Ambergris Caye in Belize, and Isla Mujeres in Mexico.
