Now, we've got more good news for local university students because you will now have a much faster broadband speed - up to 100 gigabytes per second, as a matter of fact!
This is all due to the new upgraded Malaysian Research Education Network (MYREN-X) which links more than 150 institutions around Malaysia, including public universities, polytechnics, community colleges and teaching hospitals.
This is now the first high-speed network and the fastest one in Malaysia!
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this initiative was in line with the objective to meet the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), which emphasises on digital economy and the use of efficient cyber infrastructure, as reported by New Straits Times.
He also said we need an infrastructure that can provide faster connectivity to facilitate access and collaboration with scientists worldwide, especially in the areas of research and education.
The new high-speed network will also help improve big-data processing and high-performance computing.
“In medical research into cancer, it is required to have high-performance computing systems that can process up to 26 billion character codes per second, with the aim of reducing the fatality rate among patients,” Najib said, as reported by The Star.
The previous internet infrastructure known as MYREN was reportedly linked only to public universities and could only provide broadband speed of 20 megabytes per second for each university.
With the MYREN-X, the government is aiming to push the cyber infrastructure at all public tertiary institutions to be on par with universities in developed countries.
