Local YouTube sensation Sugu Pavithra is flying high.

Just a week after receiving the Silver Play Button for hitting 100,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, she has now been bestowed with another award.

This time, the 28-year-old was honoured as Ipoh’s inaugural icon.

Well deserved award

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud told Malay Mail that Pavithra was chosen because her hometown was in Buntong, Ipoh.

According to Rumaizi, the housewife-turned-YouTube star was recognised for her contributions to the city.

In fact, Rumaizi also noted that even Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had acknowledged her contributions.

Another feather to her cap.
Besides Pavithra, the mayor added that the state is currently in the midst of identifying another 99 people from Ipoh to be named icons, and they will be honoured during the city’s 33rd-anniversary celebration in May 2021.

During a press conference held on Monday (20 July), Pavithra, accompanied by her husband M. Sugu, thanked the council for the recognition.

“I would like to thank my fans for their support too,” she added.

Keep flying high, Sugu Pavithra!
