Loud Explosion in Central Ipoh Causes Tremors & Netizens to Panic, Cause Still Unknown
This morning (Oct 21) a loud bang was heard across central Ipoh, with some buildings also shaken from the incident.
The noise, which sounded like an explosion, was heard in several areas of Ipoh including Medan Istana, Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Klebang, Manjoi and Tanjung Rambutan at about 11:05 am today.
Videos of the incident have made their way on social media with some users on Facebook also claiming to have even experienced as far as in Kuala Kangsar.
According to The Star, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they have no information for now while Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said they are looking into it.
It is unclear as to what caused it but some of the theories that were floated included rock-blasting being conducted at quarries, exercise by the army and a sonic boom caused by a jet.
As of now, the Minerals and Geosciences Department has not issued any statements or notifications regarding the tremor.
Meanwhile, social media users have taken to social media to share their stories and videos of the incident.
We hope that there were no casualties from the incident.
