Malaysia’s population is growing!

According to figures released by the Malaysian Statistics Department, we now have 32.6 million people compared to 32.4 million last year.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin was quoted in Bernama saying that out of the 32.6 million, 29.4 million are citizens and 3.2 million are non-citizens.

He also said that there are 107 males per 100 females, with the male population at 16.8 million, while the female population is at 15.8 million.

We need more young people in this nation.
People between the ages of 0 to 14 reportedly dropped to 23.3 per cent from 23.8 per cent last year, while the percentage for those aged 65 and above rose to 6.7 per cent from 6.5 per cent last year.

“Malaysia is expected to experience an ageing population in 2030 with the percentage of people aged 60 and above at 15.3 per cent,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added that race wise, the bumiputra population recorded an increase of 0.2 per cent to 69.3 per cent from 69.1 per cent in 2018, while the Chinese ethnic dropped to 22.8 per cent from 23 per cent.

The Indian and others remained at 6.9 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively.
