Malaysia Will Soon Have Tram Services In The Klang Valley

If you’ve been to places like Hong Kong, Melbourne or London, you would notice that a rail-vehicle resembling a train can often be spotted on the streets.

The rail-vehicle is known as a tram, which runs on tracks across public streets.

Trams have been a mode of transportation for thousands of people around the world every day and soon, we will have them on our soil too.

The Star reported that the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) recently announced that they are planning to implement a tram system in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Kajang, and Bangi.

This is how the tram will look like once it has been implemented in our streets.

SPAD is proposing a 53km tram network that will be linked to the MRT 1 line in Kajang and the upcoming MRT 2 and High-Speed Rail (HSR) lines.

The department has received green light for a Request for Proposal (RFP) exercise which will take place within three to six months.

SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Shah told reporters during a press conference that “SPAD has conducted the feasibility studies and knows the network and the areas to cover.”

The department is currently learning from other European and Asian countries that are using tram services.

The tram service was chosen because it was seen as a cost-efficient and environmental-friendly options. Not only that, it may also help reduce congestion in the four areas.
