Malaysian Athlete Wins Gold At Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2019
It's official: Malaysians are absolute fighters.
If you are fan of martial arts, especially Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, you would be proud to know that a Malaysian athlete recently won a gold medal at the Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2019.
Cassandra J. Poyong, who hails from Sabah, defeated fellow competitors Marianna Jurkiewicz from Poland and Jelsilene Monteiro from Brazil in the women's under 55kg category to bring home the gold medal.
Astro Awani reported that the 30-year-old attributed her win to the team effort when it comes to the grueling training, "the crazy weight cuts" and "insane bath salt soak".
Prior to this win, the lass had also won two golds in this year's IBJJF Manila Open, and several gold medals in Malaysia's Copa da Malasia jiu-jitsu tournaments.
The Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which ran from 20 to 26 April this year, is regarded as the largest and most important event on the global jiu-jitsu calendar.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling with particular emphasis on ground fighting.
