The latest to join the list is 55-year-old Kamal Chopra.

According to The Star Online, the Malaysian lawyer-turned-singer was named the Best International Artist at the UK Bhangra Awards 2019.

The mother of three won the award after representing Malaysia and performing at the Regency Banqueting Suite in Birmingham on 30 November.

The UK Bhangra Awards has been the largest and most prestigious annual Bhangra event in the United Kingdom since 2014.

Aimed at promoting Punjabi culture and unity, they take in participants from other countries.

“I sang two Bhangra songs and the memory of how the crowd went wild when the pulsating tunes started playing is still vivid and overwhelming.

“It was an exciting and unforgettable experience, ” she was quoted as saying.

Kamal was nominated along with five others and she garnered the most public votes polled through email and SMS. She was chosen by a panel of judges based on work done, performances and endorsements of the Punjabi culture over the course of a year.

She thanked her husband for supporting her and believes that singing is her calling, so she plans to work on an album set to release next year.
