Malaysian Woman Rents Out Home Cheaply Out Of Sympathy, Claims Tenant Left It In Ruins

A Malaysian woman’s decision to rent out her home at a lower rate out of sympathy reportedly backfired after her tenant allegedly left the property in a shocking state of disrepair.

In a TikTok post, the woman, who goes by the username @shaisaid, shared that she had often come across stories about landlords dealing with irresponsible tenants. However, she never expected to find herself facing a similar ordeal.

According to Shai, she only discovered the condition of her rental property on 16 September. In the caption accompanying her video, she noted that while many Malaysians were enjoying the Malaysia Day holiday, she was dealing with an unpleasant surprise.

“I rented out the house out of sympathy. They haven’t paid rent for months, even though the rental was already cheap. Utility bills were also left unpaid. I never imagined that a house I took such good care of would end up in the hands of such terrible tenants,” she wrote.

The video shows the home in a severely neglected condition, with rubbish, discarded belongings, and clutter covering large portions of the floor. Some rooms appeared so packed with items that they were difficult to access.

Making matters worse, one of the bathrooms had allegedly been turned into a makeshift fish storage area, with multiple containers holding live fish.

Tenant was reportedly a local couple with two young children

According to Shai, the property had been rented to a local married couple with two young children. She claimed the family was eventually asked to leave after they were unable to keep up with their rental payments and had accumulated substantial unpaid utility bills.

The incident has since attracted widespread attention online, with many social media users expressing sympathy for the landlord's situation. Others urged property owners to be more cautious when screening prospective tenants, saying proper background checks and clear rental agreements could help reduce the risk of similar disputes.

Many commenters also noted that while most tenants are responsible, cases like this highlight the financial and emotional challenges landlords may face when rental arrangements go wrong.
