Malaysian Women Are Among The Most Successful In Various Fields Than Other Parts Of The World

On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak reportedly said at the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) and 2017 National Women's Day Celebration dialogue session that Malaysian women are more successful in various fields compared to women from other parts of the world.

This is proven clearly in Malaysian women’s involvement and contribution to the workforce, which currently stands at 700,000 in total.

"In the education sector, the enrolment into public tertiary institutions increased from 62.5 per cent in 2011 to 64 per cent in 2015 while at the doctorate level, it was 43.1 per cent in 2011 and 44.8 per cent in 2013.

"This clearly shows the position of women in education is very stable and strong that the question arising now is what has happened to men," Najib said, as quoted by Bernama.

According to the report, women covered 35 per cent of top management positions in the public sector.

As for the corporate sector, 16.8 per cent of women were in similar positions in public listed companies (PLC). But the goal is to hit 30 per cent, said PM Najib.

The Prime Minister has issued a warning that they will reveal the name of companies that don’t have female board members and the government will refrain from issuing contracts.

He also added that the government was committed to increase the participation of women to ensure equal opportunities in various fields among men and women.

“We are heading towards 30 years from now to become the top 20 nations in the world,” he said at the dialogue session moderated by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
