Malaysians Angered By MySejahtera's Hotspot Tracker, "Info On Social Media Faster!"

RD Minion 30/09/2020 | 15:58 MYT
Malaysians are ticked off with the contact tracing MySejahtera app's Hotspot Tracker function.
Comments have been flooding social media, especially via Twitter with many lamenting about the point of religiously checking in using the app.
Many said that the Hotspot Tracker was useless and did not provide useful, timely information.
Frustrations mounted after a series of shopping malls in the Klang Valley posted statements on how there were COVID-19 positive cases recorded there.
Being a weekend, many Malaysians who were at the said malls then looked to MySejahtera for updated info but found nothing helpful.

But we absolutely understand because it is called a hotspot tracker and it should well, track hotspots right? No?

Health Ministry explains

Following the outrage online, the Ministry of Health issued a statement pertaining to MySejahtera and the Hotspot Tracker.

The statement reads:
There are many concerns on social media on the use of Hotspot Tracker on MySejahtera mobile application.
Recently, NuSentral Mall, Kl Gateway Mall, Sunway Pyramid Mall and Suria KLCC came up with press statements on some staff being tested positive which lead to disinfection and cleaning activities being carried out.
As a matter of fact, a location being considered as a hotspot is purely based on in depth investigation by MOH on the definite and possible source of infection. All these are based on facts and science.
Henceforth, all the above mentioned malls are not the source or potential source of infection.
Appreciation should be given the the said malls for their proactive action as it is a standard operating procedure as per MOH prevention and control action strategy.
We would like to also commend Malaysians at large for using the functions of MySejahtera regularly and it is clearly evident everyone is updated about the happenings on COVID-19.
We also urge Malaysians and residents in Malaysia to only share information based on facts so as not to create unnecessary panic in the community.
Thank you!

While KKM has been commended for issuing a statement so fast, the information provided does not really address the concerns posed by the public.
Many still called for updated information to be provided via the MySejahtera app.
Perhaps on top of including confirmed hotspots (after in depth investigation by MOH as explained in the statement), the app could include latest positive cases so that we're all aware and understand if we're at high risk.
Some argued that it could lead to panic but isn't it better to know of the risks rather than be oblivious to it...? (that is until you scroll through social media and see an update by the shopping mall informing people that someone has been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive there.)
Lagi panic right? No?
Tell us what you think in the comments and stay safe guys!
