In conjunction with the International Day of Happiness on Monday, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations released this year’s annual World Happiness Report.

The report was introduced back in 2012, which ranks 155 countries across the globe on their level of happiness.

So, this makes us wonder, are Malaysians generally happy? The answer is, pretty happy.

Out of 155 countries, we managed to place at *drum rolls* the 42nd spot this year! Not bad, eh?

Not only that, we’ve moved up five spots compared to last year. So, despite the ‘bad’ things that have taken place lately, we Malaysians have managed to find solace in other things.

Bravo, Malaysians! Now let’s celebrate with a round of Pharrell William’s Happy.

Well, you must be wondering about our neighbours, right?

Thailand climbed up to the 32nd spot this year, Singapore placed 26th, Indonesia placed 81st, and the Philippines moved up to the 72nd spot.

Regionally, we are the fourth happiest country in Asia after Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan.

So, who are the happiest lot in the world? They are the Norwegian people!

As a matter of fact Scandinavian countries have dominated the top 10 happiest countries in the world – Norway (1), Denmark (2), Iceland (3), Finland (5), and Sweden (10).

It’s no surprise that these countries top the list, after all, they have breathtaking sceneries and landscapes, plenty of money in the bank and a booming economy.

Let’s hope that we Malaysians will place higher on the list next year.
