We want cheap houses, and we want it now!

If you're one of those people who are currently looking to buy a house, or always complaining that you can't afford one, there's some good news for you!

The government has revealed that housebuyers can expect a five to ten per cent discount on home prices.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng told The New Straits Times that the discount is due to the exemption of Sales and Services Tax on construction materials.

However, the discount only applies to newly launched homes, not houses that have already been built.

Also, Lim clarified that the exemption does not mean that house prices will drop all around, so an expensive house in Bangsar is still going to be expensive.

What you gonna do, right?
So, what about exisiting houses? Can we expect the government to work their magic on unsold properties around the country, especially when they are worth a jaw-dropping RM22bil in total?

Well, judging by the hint Lim dropped, we might have a sliver of hope.

“As for existing units that have been built, you will have to wait until Friday (Budget 2019),” he was quoted as saying.

We don't know, we've been burned before, so we're not going to get our hopes up.
