Malaysia’s ATLAS Vending Launches World’s Thinnest Smart Recycling Machine, Earns Guinness World Record
Malaysia’s leading provider of vending solutions, ATLAS Vending, has recently made a name for itself after securing a Guinness World Record for the Thinnest Reverse Vending Machine with a Compaction System.
Named the ATLAS ECOPOD, the reverse vending machine is designed to collect polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and aluminium cans, compressing them efficiently with a mechanical compaction system that maximises storage capacity whilst having sensors to ensure user safety. The recyclable materials are then converted into reward points that can be redeemed at ATLAS vending machines nationwide.
Measuring only 35 centimetres (cm) in width, this recycling vending machine—launched by beverage manufacturer and distributor Etika Sdn Bhd—is uniquely suited for modern urban environments and high-traffic public spaces.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the ATLAS ECOPOD is a significant contribution to Malaysia’s sustainability goals.
“This achievement extends beyond a corporate accolade. It forms part of a national initiative to accelerate the transition towards a green economy, in line with Malaysia’s commitments under Malaysia MADANI,” he said.
Meanwhile, Santharuban Thurai Sundaram, CEO of Etika Group of Companies, added, “Achieving this Guinness World Record is a significant milestone for ATLAS Vending. The ATLAS ECOPOD transforms recycling into an engaging experience, reflecting our relentless pursuit of sustainable innovation. This record elevates our status on a global scale while reinforcing our commitment to drive environmental change for all Malaysians.”
ATLAS Vending will deploy the first 100 ATLAS ECOPOD units nationwide. In the initial rollout, consumers who recycle Etika beverage products will receive bonus reward points, redeemable at any ATLAS vending machine.
With this Guinness World Record achievement, the ATLAS ECOPOD joins a growing list of ATLAS Vending’s award-winning, innovative, and sustainable offerings—including the introduction of Braille-enabled machines for the visually impaired and more.
