Malindo Air To Lay Off Over 2,000 Staff As The Aviation Industry Continues To Decline

A lot of industries have been hit hard due to the pandemic, which resulted in a lot of downsizing and layoffs.

This is the same, even for giant players in the aviation industry.

According to Bernama, Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd is set to cut approximately 2,200 staff or more than half of their 3,200 employees soon.

Besides downsizing their workforce, the company is also planning to reduce the amount of its aircrafts to only five Boeing 737 and six turboprops ATR.

Affected staff members will be cleared by 30 November while those who are still employed are expected to take on multiple tasks in the company.

Malindo Air isn’t the only one downsizing though, AirAsia also recently revealed that they are planning to layoff 10% out of their 24,000 staff in order to survive.
