Police have arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly posting defamatory comments on Facebook against the late Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem. The state Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the man was detained at his house in Landeh earlier today, and his mobile phone and personal belongings were also confiscated as part of the investigation.

Since Adenan’s passing, there have been several postings on social media that were allegedly against the law. A total of 13 police reports have been lodged so far against four Facebook users, including the detained man.

"An investigation is being conducted on four of the reports. The Sarawak police would like to warn netizens to be on their best behaviour during this period of mourning. We are monitoring social media sites and will not hesitate to arrest anyone posting defamatory or inflammatory comments against the late Chief Minister, or any other person for that matter," Dev said.

Adenan passed away yesterday afternoon due to a heart attack. Thousands of Sarawakians, including political leaders, gathered at the Jamek Mosque this morning to bid farewell and pay their final respects to the late Chief Minister.
