Cockroaches are the worst insects.

They are gross even when found alone, but when hundreds of them are seen crawling in a small space, it's enough to make even someone who are OK with the insect run in fear.

But that's exactly what Facebook user Joel Chee found when he was walking along the Melaka River recently.

Not a pretty sight

Joel Chee shared the pictures on 29 March on his social media page, and warned people to be more careful when they lean on one of those bollards.

We have to say, we're quite impressed that Chee managed to get close enough to 'em roaches to get that picture.

All we could think of is those cockroaches starting to fly and attacking everyone around them. Ugh! Just thinking about it is making us shudder!

Here's a closer up look at the pictures, in case you want to feel just as grossed out.

Creepy crawlers
Chee figured that heavy rain caused the roaches to crawl out of their hidey-holes but they will be gone again once their homes dries up.

Mothership Singapore spoke to pest control experts Rentokil, who confirmed Chee's theory.

So, the next time you lean on anything that looks sturdy in public places, you might want to think about what else has been there before you.
