Meet The Chinese Uncle Who Would Do Anything For His Four Adopted Malay Children
Ramadan may be a Holy month to do good deeds for the Muslims, but non-Muslims also respect the month and its significance.
One of them is Lim Peng Chik, a 74-year-old who has four adopted Muslim children aged five, eight and two 15-year-olds.
According to a report by the New Straits Times, Lim first met the children when he was living in Taman Desa Tambun.
The children came from a poor family and Lim, who was living alone, was moved to help them out.
"I knew they were struggling to make ends meet. So I helped them by providing them rice, food and drinks, and pocket money. I never had second thoughts about it," he was quoted as saying.
Lim goes out of his way to provide for his children. He later adopted them despite the racial difference.
"I take care of their education since they come from poor and problematic families. I send them to school and fetch them home in the afternoon.
"The fact that we are of different races and religions does not bother me. I am not asking for anything in return because I am happy to be able to help them and see them happy," he said.
Even during the month of Ramadan, Lim would do all he can to help his children observe the holy month.
According to the report, Lim never fails to wake the children up for sahur every day.
At night, he even sends the children to the mosque so that they can perform the tarawih prayers.
What a noble act! We need more people like Lim. Hats off to you, sir!
