Over the weekend, TikTok user @HafizLazin posted a video of an escaped ‘mermaid’ at KLCC. The ‘mermaid’ was actually of a visitor appearing to be in their 30s who was having a whale of a time at a fountain at the KLCC grounds.

Wearing a red and white sleeveless short dress, they were seen splashing their hands in the water and raising their hands in the air. Curious onlookers in the background appeared to be photographing the ‘mermaid’ and their inexplicable behaviour.

As they continued playing in the fountain with colourful lights, someone could be heard shouting “Out, out” in the background and they sheepishly looked back.

The video then cut to the person being led away by a policeman and crossing the street. However, as one user hilariously commented, the casual way they sauntered together with the policeman was as if they were taking a stroll with their boyfriend. The policeman was seen to be sternly talking to them but it is uncertain what happened following the incident.

Amused netizens commented that the person had probably gotten a heat stroke while others reported that they had encountered the person before. One said that they met them in front of Mandarin Oriental and during pouring rain, the person had rolled on top of a Porsche at the valet area. Another said that they had seen them at Jalan Genting Klang.

Let’s hope that others won’t follow suit and try to imitate the behaviour of mythical creatures at other Malaysian landmarks!
