On Wednesday morning, a 56-year-old mother and her 16-year-old daughter were found dead with multiple slash wounds on their bodies at their house in Jalan Beladau, Taman Putri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram.

The mother, Navamani Muthaiah, and her daughter, Turgadevi Sellamuth, were found by Navamani’s second child, Perabakaran Sellamuthu, 33 when he came home to check on his 3-year-old daughter who was staying with them. He found his mother’s body on the bed while his sister lay lifeless on the floor next to the bed. Both of them were covered in a pool of blood. His daughter was unharmed but was crying when he found her.

"Checks revealed that the mother was stabbed in her left rib, neck and back while the daughter was stabbed in her body, neck and mouth. She was also slashed around her wrist, suggesting that she had put up a fight with the suspects," said Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh.

Police have ruled out robbery as the motive of the murder as they were no signs of forced entry. There is a possibility that the victims may have known the suspects and let them in.

Initial investigations revealed that there were four men who were believed to be involved in this gruesome murder. According to Harian Metro today, two suspects in their 20s have been caught by the police while they were attempting to flee via an express bus. Personal belongings belonging to the deceased were also found in possession of the suspects.

Perabakaran lives not too far from his mother and was with his father at the time of incident.

"I was surprised to see the house door left open but no one responded to me when I called (them). I then entered the house and saw my mother lying on the bed in a pool of blood, while my (youngest) sister was on the floor," he told Astro Awani.
