Motoring Influencer Among 8 Arrested After Allegedly Shutting Down Johor Highway For Illegal Race

A motoring influencer was among eight alleged street racers remanded for four days to assist investigations into an incident involving the closure of a stretch of highway for an illegal race along Kilometre 33 to Kilometre 31 of the Second Link Expressway (Linkedua) on Saturday.

The remand order, from Monday to Thursday, was issued by Magistrate R. Salini following an application by the police under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Earlier, the suspects arrived at the Kulai Magistrate's Court in a police truck at about 8:30 AM.

According to Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad, all eight suspects, aged between 26 and 45, were arrested at 11:54 AM on Sunday by officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kulai District Police Headquarters (IPD).

All of the suspects tested negative for drugs.

The case came to light after a video went viral on social media on Saturday afternoon, allegedly showing two motorcycles racing each other along a stretch of the highway from KM33 near the Senai Utara toll exit to KM31 near Johor Premium Outlets (JPO).

Police said the registration numbers and motorcycle models involved could not be identified from the footage.

Investigations are being carried out under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said authorities are also working to identify other individuals believed to have been present at the scene and watching the race from the roadside.

He added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
