An elderly couple from Kuala Lumpur recently made a trip all the way to Perak, excited to ride what they believed was a brand-new cable car attraction only to discover that it doesn’t actually exist.

In a now-viral post on Threads, a woman known as Dya shared how the couple had checked in at the hotel where she works. According to her, they asked about the “viral cable car,” but she initially thought they were joking.

“They asked me whether I’ve ridden the Kuak Hulu Cable Car. I thought they were joking, so I replied, ‘I’m so busy I haven’t found the time to ride it.’ But then they said they came all the way from KL to ride it. I was so shocked and explained to them that the video was AI-generated.”

The couple wanted to sue

Initially, the couple refused to believe her, insisting the video they saw on Facebook must be real especially since it featured a “reporter.” Dya had to break the news again, explaining that even the people in the video were AI-generated.

“When I asked if they had checked with their children before traveling, they said they were too embarrassed to ask."

"Then, the wife said she wanted to sue the ‘reporter’ in the video. I watched it, and it turns out everything including the people was AI-generated.”

At the end of her post, Dya urged everyone, especially those with elderly parents, to check in with them regularly to prevent similar incidents.

Other social media users also chimed in, urging caution and reminding others to take everything they see online with a grain of salt.

“No wonder my mother said she wanted to go on a cable car ride. Thank God I saw this video and told her it doesn’t exist.”

“That’s why people say AI is dangerous. Videos like these are enough to fool others,” said a user.

According to the AI-generated video, the “cable car ride” supposedly connected Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, and Mount Baling. It was referred to as the Kuak Skyride.
