M'sian Embassy's '1M' Plate Valued at Over RM5.7 Million, Among the UK's Priciest Plate Numbers
The record for the highest amount ever paid for a car number plate in Malaysia stands at RM1.75 million, a sum spent by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for the ‘FFF1’ plate.
However, interestingly, one of the priciest car number plates in the United Kingdom is owned by the Malaysian embassy.

A TikTok video by @numberplatehistory revealed that the ‘1M’ plate was specially issued to the Malaysian embassy. This dateless plate is non-transferable and has adorned various vehicles over the years, from London Taxis to Mercedes Benz S Classes, currently on an S450.
The video also highlighted that the ‘1M’ plate is valued at over £1 million, equivalent to more than RM5.7 million. Documents indicate that the plate has been in use since at least 1974, thanks to the research of the late Noel Woodall.

According to the caption, the value of the plate comes from it's initial, number, and character length.
"As it is impossible in the United Kingdom to have a two digit number plate, this is the shortest possible M alongside the privately owned M1," they added.
