'Bantal busuk' is an essential for many Malaysian kids. While some find it easy to detach themselves from it as they grow older, many find it hard and continue to cling on to it as a beloved ‘sleeping partner.’.

For one Malaysian man, he had thought that he would never see his beloved 'bantal busuk' after he had lost it back in 2020.

To his surprise, on his 34th birthday, a friend had reunited him with the 'bantal busuk.' It turns out the 'bantal busuk' was secretly kept by the friend all those years just so he could re-gift it back to him.

In a TikTok video, the man showed how his friend had placed the 'bantal busuk' in a clear acrylic box with a couple of his childhood photos. According to him, he had originally thought he'd misplaced the 'bantal busuk' when he moved or that his friend had secretly thrown it away.

“This is my ‘bantal busuk' that I've been using since I was 4 years old in 1996. When I moved house in 2020, I thought I had left it somewhere. Turns out, my friend had been keeping it all these years just so he could gift it back to me on my birthday,” he explained.

Netizens amused

The video had garnered much attention from TikTok users. In the comments section, many took the opportunity to tell their own stories with their 'bantal busuk.'

A user said, “I still keep mine that I've been using since 1994. Sometimes I'll argue with my child, who wants to keep it.”

One commented, “I still keep the ‘bantal busuk' I've been using since I was a baby. One day, the 'bantal busuk' went missing, and I found a replacement. I still sleep with the new pillow to this day. Then, one day I notice a tear at the corner, so I looked inside. Lo and behold, my mother had actually sown my old 'bantal busuk' into the new one. Now, it's getting harder for me to detach from the pillow.”
