Mukhriz Mahathir Urges Malaysians To Give Tun M Time & Space Following Tun Hasmah's Passing

Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is urging the public to give his father, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the time and space he needs to grieve the loss of his beloved wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

According to Sinar Harian, Mukhriz said Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's passing has had a profound impact on his father.

"As we can all see, Tun Mahathir has yet to fully come to terms with the loss of his wife, whom he spent nearly 70 years with. It's been less than a week, so he definitely needs more time to accept the fact that my mother is no longer with us," he said.

Mukhriz also revealed that the family decided it would be best for Tun Mahathir to remain at the National Heart Institute (IJN) for the time being until he has fully recovered.

According to him, being at home would likely bring back painful memories of the life he shared with the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah.

"If possible, please don't put too much pressure on him by constantly asking about his emotional state and so on. Imagine if we were in the same situation. We would naturally feel an immense sense of loss. So please, give him some time and space to recover," he shared.

Netizens resonate with Mukhriz's message

While many Malaysians are still mourning the loss of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who passed away at the age of 100 at IJN on 28 September, many also agree that Tun Mahathir should be given ample time and space to properly grieve the loss of his wife.

"Why can't the public leave him alone for a moment? I'm sure he still has many things he wishes he could say to his wife."
