Nanotech, Drones & Stiffer Penalties Among Short Term Plans For Uninterrupted Water Supply In S'gor
The Selangor government has put in place several short term measures for the Guaranteed Raw Water Scheme.
What's that, you say?
Well, the scheme was basically put together to guarantee continuous water supply to the people of Selangor (hopefully) even when pollution happens.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shahri posted an explainer on the short term measures on social media and they include the usange of nanotechnology, drones and even a reward for informants relating to polluters.
Steps set in place
There are four main short-term measures as part of the scheme and they include:

Measure 1: Early treatment at water treatment ponds.
- To use Aquaritin Nanotechnology as a natural form of water treatment.
Measure 2: Monitoring and supervision

- 24-hour monitoring by Squad PANTAS.
- Using drones to analyse water, patrol the area and collect evidence for court cases.
- To place an early warning system to detect pollution using the Total Organic Carbon Analyser technology.
Measure 3: To build a pumping infrastructure directly from the Selangor River to the reservoir (end of 2022).
- Doing this will ensure continuous water supply even when there is a pollution incident. (There is a disclaimer for this point though. It says that continuous water cannot be guaranteed if it is the dry season and if pollution happens for more than five days.)
Measure 4: The enforcement of the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) enactment (Amendment) 2020.

The enforcing of this will include:
- A minimum fine of RM200,000 and a maximum fine of RM1 million.
- Mandatory prison.
- The power to seize without a warrant.
- Compensation claims.
- Rewards for informants. (yeay! Money for you, jail for them.)
Designed to stop water problems
"These measures are designed so that the people of Selangor can enjoy a continuous supply of water in the event of an emergency among them due to pollution cases," wrote Amirudin Shahri on the post.
The measures sound great in theory.
We just hope that it finally will result in the end to never-ending water woes for the people of Selangor.
