Netizens Launch ‘White Flag’ Campaign To Help Malaysians In Need During The Pandemic

On Monday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin announced a series of aids as part of the PEMULIH (Pakej Perlindungan Rakyat dan Pemulihan Ekonomi) plan.
Though this plan may be beneficial for the most of us, there are still a number of Malaysians who are badly affected by the pandemic.
Following this, netizens have started a campaign with the hashtag #BenderaPutih (white flag) in a bid to help those in dire need.

Rakyat jaga rakyat… again!

The mechanics of the #BenderaPutih movement is simple: by hanging a white flag outside of your house or gate, and making sure it’s visible to others, it signals that you’ve run out of basic necessities or food.
It could even be a plea for any kind of help.
Images of the movement and white flags have gone viral on social media, with many kind-hearted Malaysians reaching out to help those who are affected.
“Avoid getting stressed. You don’t need to beg and don’t need to be ashamed. Just put up a white flag and help will come,” the viral image said.

Last year, a similar movement was created, #KitaJagaKita, with the aim of helping out those in need.
Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and extended Movement Control Order (MCO), a lot of people have lost their jobs and source of income, which led to all sorts of problems such as hunger, poverty, and even increasing suicide rates.
Charity begins at home, so let’s all do our part by checking on our family members and neighbours.
And to those who need help please don’t suffer in silence, as many are willing to extend a helping hand during these trying times.
Well done, Malaysians! Let’s continue to take care of each other.
