Netizens React To Agong's Resignation, A First In Malaysia
On Sunday, the biggest news hit the nation -- Sultan Muhammad V stepped down as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Why is this big news? Because this is the first time Malaysia has ever experience the resignation of a King.
In fact, many Malaysians were not aware that our Agong is actually allowed to quit before this.
According to The Star, the resignation was done in line with Article 32(3) of the Federal Constitution. So, it's definitely legit!
"His Majesty has informed this matter officially to the Malay Rulers through a letter issued to the secretary of the Conference of Rulers," the Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan Ab. Aziz said in a statement.
"Throughout his tenure as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, his Royal Highness has fulfilled his duties as the Head of State, a pillar of national stability, a source of justice and basis of unity and uniting factor for the people."
"The King would like to offer his thanks to all the state Rulers for selecting him as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, from Dec 13, 2016."
His Royal Highness also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and their federal government for their cooperation.

"To the people of Malaysia, His Royal Highness is calling for continued unity, tolerance and work together in shouldering responsibilities to the country and ensure Malaysia will continue to be in peace and harmony," the statement read.
Sultan Muhammad V was on leave for two months from 2 November to seek medical treatment abroad and his duties were temporarily handled by the Deputy Agong, Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
This temporary tenure ended on 31 December.
Following this news, many people were royally stunned (pun intended) to witness our Agong step down from the throne.
