Just a few days after swearing in as ministers of the new Cabinet, the Pakatan Harapan champions have all agreed to do one drastic thing: taking a pay cut.
On Wednesday, Tun Dr. Mahathir chaired the first ever weekly Cabinet meeting at Perdana Putra where he announced that all cabinet ministers will get a 10 percent salary cut on their basic salary.
According to Tun Mahathir, the cut is part of the new government’s cost-cuttings measures to “help the country's finances.”
"This has been a practice of mine. I also did the same thing when I became prime minister in 1981," Tun told The Star.
The cut came after it was reported that our national debt has breached the RM1 trillion mark.
Apart from the salary cut, the Prime Minister also made a few major announcements: Wow honestly, we’re really impressed by the changes made by the new government in just a span of two weeks. At this rate, who knows what they will announce next.
