Travelling can be very stressful for some people, partly due to the costs and expenses. But beginning today, travellers flying out of this airport will have one less thing to worry about!

AirAsia will stop charging the RM3 fee for all flights departing from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) effective today (7 January).

The removal of the 'klia2 fee' is a way to help keep fares low for travellers, staying true to their 'low-cost' claim.

For all you frequent and not-so-frequent travellers out there, do you remember what this klia2 fee is for?

The fee was first introduced in May 2014 for mandatory klia2 facilities imposed by the airport operator to the airline, such as aerobridges and the SITA check-in and boarding systems.

Normally, you would pay this extra fee upon booking your flight. The fee is applicable to all guests, except infants and children below two years old.

You can do a lot with RM3.
Although it is charged to offset the mandatory klia2 facilities charges imposed by the airport management, the additional RM3 can still be considered a burden to some.

Hence why the low-cost airline has decided to stop charging the klia2 fee effective immediately.

"We have said from the very beginning that klia2 is not fit for low-cost carrier operations. We will be going directly to Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad for all the extra costs," AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said in a statement, as reported by Bernama.

Nevertheless, always be sure to check if there is any pending extra fee or charge before flying out because the last thing you want before travelling is something as petty as an unpaid fee stop you from your long-awaited holiday.
