The Obamas Are Coming To Malaysia This December

The couple is often known as good examples as leaders of the modern world.

Now, young leaders across Asia may be able to catch a glimpse of the Obamas as they will be heading to Malaysia this December.

Barack and Michelle are scheduled to hold the Obama Foundation's inaugural Asia Pacific leaders gathering here in Kuala Lumpur from 10 to 14 December.

The gathering will see 200 leaders from more than 30 countries and territories across the region, from various fields in the public and private sectors, come together as part of a year-long programme that is focused on "values-based, ethical leadership", The Star reported.

The five-day gathering will include plenary sessions, skills-building workshops, leadership development training, and networking opportunities.

"The Asia Pacific region holds a deep well of talented and passionate emerging leaders, and it is a region of great importance to President Obama given his strong roots in Indonesia and Hawaii," Obama Foundation chief international officer Bernadette Meehan said in a statement.

"This programme will build upon the community organising legacy of the Obamas, with a focus on shared values and ethical leadership, and we are excited to embark on a year-long programme to empower these leaders to tackle the unique challenges they face in their communities."

Barack also announced their visit personally on his official Instagram, stating that having grown up in Hawaii and Indonesia, the Pacific is a big part of who he is today.

The Pacific has always been a part of me. Growing up in Hawaiʻi and Indonesia, with the guidance of my mother and grandparents, I learned to appreciate the wonders and beauty of the region. During my time in elected office and in the years since, I saw the many ways that the Asia-Pacific region has positioned itself to take advantage of tremendous opportunities. It’s home to a remarkable generation of emerging leaders, women and men poised to take on some of the greatest challenges our planet has ever faced. Earlier this year, I had a chance to meet with a few of these folks as we designed the @ObamaFoundation Leaders: Asia-Pacific program. And today, I’m excited to say that Michelle and I will be joining the program’s inaugural gathering in Malaysia in December. We’ll talk about the importance of ethical leadership—how staying true to your values is the only way to truly carry out lasting change. There will also be emerging leaders that focus on girls' education and empowerment from Asia Pacific attending the gathering.

The Foundation believes that these leaders have the potential to impact and affect their communities through their daily work.
