Times are tough, we're not going to lie, but the silver lining is that in times like these, Malaysians stand up to help each other.

The latest to do that are the state executive council members from Pahang.

Setting a good example

According to a report by The Sun, Pahang's EXCO members have agreed to take a 10 per cent pay cut for the next two months to help those heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The daily reported that the amount saved will be channeled to the Pahang COVID-19 Fund, which will then be used to help those affected by the outbreak and Movement Control Order (MCO).

More people encouraged to donate to the fund

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail reportedly said the decision was made by the EXCO members because of their sense of responsibility and sympathy towards the people of all races, ages and occupations who are adversely affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

"Hopefully this will encourage more people to come forward and contribute to help those in need,” he said in a statement here today," he said, adding that the pay cut will start from April 1.

Meanwhile, Free Malaysia Today reported that Pahang's civil servants have also agreed to pay cuts.

There's no fixed percentage, but the civil servants have agreed to donate whatever they could afford to the Pahang COVID-19 Fund for the next two months.

You too can help those living in the state by making a donation to the Pahang State Treasury, Bank Muamalat account No. 06010002165711 or digital application PahangGo.

Bravo! Let's hope this act will also encourage other politicians - like the ones who sent encouraging #StayAtHome messages from their swimming pools and lavish homes - to opt for pay cuts to help the people too.

Perhaps the ultra-rich will also join this 'movement'?
