Pastor Raymond Koh Was Abducted 21 Days Ago. He Is Still Missing
Pastor Raymond Koh was abducted on 13 February 2017, and it was first reported that he had been taken from his car at Jalan Bahagia. The word got out through forwarded Whatsapp messages and postings on social media and still no word.
He was reportedly delivering belacan to a friend who was returning to Medan, Indonesia.
At first, reports stated that he had been taken by men into a van but it was later clarified in The Star that he was abducted by people wearing black ski masks in three to four black SUVs. Police had gathered CCTV footage from the area that confirms at least two black SUVs were on the scene.
There has been no significant development to the case since.
On 22 February Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar launched a task force that is headed by Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat to search for abducted pastor Raymond Koh Keng Joo. The kidnapping was then reportedly linked to a death threat he received six years ago, in which he received a bullet sent to his home.
The incident was believed to have been connected to a Jais raid on a thanksgiving and fund-raising dinner organised by his centre, Harapan Komuniti.
On Sunday, 5 March, a viral video emerged that circled Whatsapp and social media sites that allegedly details the kidnapping. It showed that the men who abducted him were extremely adept and efficient. Employing three non-descript black SUVs to block Pastor Raymond's car while another two cars and two people on motorbikes controlled traffic. The incident allegedly took place at 10.50am. Police are investigating the authenticity of the video and the family have commented that they do not know where the video came from.
Nevertheless, the abduction video matches the initial reports surrounding his kidnapping and throws further questions into the mix.
Why was such a large operation necessary to take one 60-year-old Pastor? How did they know where he was going and that he would use this road with limited access? Why couldn't Pastor Raymond tell that there were at least seven cars tailing him?
We will update the case as it develops.
