And with the big day just around the corner, the authorities are doing all they can to prevent people from sneaking back to their kampung to celebrate with their family.
No more tolerance
On Monday (19 April), Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani confirmed that interstate travel conditions have been tightened, The Star Online reported.
The decision to tighten the rules and impose stricter controls on issuing interstate travel permits was made last week, according to DIG Acryl, after the country saw an increase in the number of daily cases for the past few days.
"Yes, I can confirm that police have tightened the terms to approve interstate travel," he was quoted by the news portal as saying.
DIG Acryl added that this arrangement will go on until after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and those who do not follow the orders will face stern action.
What's new this time around?
Just like the last time around, interstate travels are only allowed with permission from the authorities.Interstate travels are allowed for work purposes, emergency situations, death of a family member, education purposes and long-distance spouses.
But now, the police have confirmed that a permit will be approved for travels from Monday to Thursday only (expect for reasons mentioned above).
In short, if you travel to another different state for work every day, you can't do that anymore on Fridays and Saturdays.
Regarding the 'death of a family member' excuse, PDRM has also confirmed that an interstate travel permit will only be issued for the death of an immediate family member, namely parents, children and siblings.
Also, no permit will be issued to attend social events such as weddings and other gatherings, PDRM said.
With the authorities doubling down on this, it is wise to just stay at home for the time being lah.
