Penang To Ban Toy Claw Machines Because They Can
If you always count on the toy claw machine to win over your girlfriend, we have some bad news for you: the Penang government is set to ban these machines after 2018.
The state’s Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, told Bernama that the decision to ban the toy claw machines – which require people to use money and try their luck at picking up small figurines or plush toys – was made by the state during an exco meeting.
According to Guan Eng, the ban was imposed in an effort to minimise the social problems that are plaguing the state.
He also told the news agency that the state government will notify the Penang Island City council (MBPP) as well as the Seberang Prai municipal council of the new ruling soon.
“As for this year, simulator machines will only be allowed to operate inside hotels, malls and supermarkets but after 2018, Penang will no longer have any simulator machines,” he was quoted as saying.
Guan Eng added that those who wish to apply for a new simulator machine licence would be rejected, while those seeking to renew their current licences will not be approved.
So, you have exactly one year and nine months to win all the plush toys.
